Ep. 210 - No Goals for 2023

Focus on building positive habits: Rather than setting specific goals, try focusing on building positive habits that support your overall well-being and happiness. This could include things like waking up at a consistent time each day, practicing gratitude, or making time for hobbies and activities you enjoy.

[00:00:00] It is the end of a new year. Congratulations that you have made it. But on this episode in five minutes or less, we're going to talk about why you should not set any goals for 2023. Stay tuned.

[00:00:30] I know it hasn't been easy out here in these streets. It's been it's been rough this past year in some ways for all of us, you know.

[00:00:39] But I want to get straight to the point and tell you do not set goals for 2023. I repeat do not set goals for 2023.

[00:00:52] And here's the reason. How many of you actually start out the new year and you create this laundry list of things that you're going to do, you're going to lose weight, you're going to start that side hustle, you're going to start to produce more music, you're going to start to make more content, you're going to donate your time, you know, you're going to find ways to get your mental health.

[00:01:22] And order like you make this list of all these things that you're going to do. And in the beginning of the year, you know who gets the richest right. The gems, the gems get the richest because you're paying for their revenue per square foot because you're going to get fit new year, new me.

[00:01:42] You even know you're going to do the same thing that you did last year, right. Save your money. Don't give it to the gym.

[00:01:54] The recommendation here is I would say work toward achievements. And we're going to do it in quarters because each quarter you should focus on one thing, not two, three, four and five things.

[00:02:16] So to begin another year, you're going to get in shape. And I'm no fitness guru. I just hold fitness or good health very close to my heart. So we want to create a series of good habits and that starts with being selective about what you eat and how much you eat.

[00:02:42] Being aware of the amount of time that you spend being active. So we're not going to talk to this gym nonsense about, you know, getting in the gym and hitting the stair master for 200 stairs, stair climber and, you know, treadmill, six, seven, eight miles because you may start out, you know, that first week, it's Jim be packed.

[00:03:03] It'd be packed new years. You get there right in there doing you can't get on equipment. That was years ago, an hour ago. I stopped doing that all together. I go to the park, be out and open.

[00:03:15] You go first week, you say I'm going to go three times a week. Second week, you go twice those busy at work kids, family, husband, all this the wife.

[00:03:26] Third week, once a week and it's once a month. I already paid your gym membership for the year. Why waste your money? Why waste your money when you could do something like this?

[00:03:45] If you know that you like to eat junk food. Just cut it out one day out of the week. Keep it light.

[00:03:57] If you know you like fried food, cut it down to once a week.

[00:04:03] If you know you have a habit of eating out, find that one thing that you can cook in the house that you get sick of, that you can batch create so that you can control the portions of what you're eating.

[00:04:19] Do that for the first quarter.

[00:04:22] Mix it in with a little bit of walking or dancing or skipping rope or swimming or cycling whatever it is that you're eating.

[00:04:32] You find interesting something that's going to keep you engaged, not the fake gym, not the fake diet. 90 days, 21 days to form a habit 90 days to create a lifestyle.

[00:04:47] This is what we're talking about. We're talking about changing your lifestyle and it's actually habit stacking.

[00:04:55] We talked about before, atomic habits. So you're pairing these things with something that you already do.

[00:05:03] So if you eat dinner and another thing is about what food also stop eating at random times.

[00:05:09] You have to create a schedule from when you're going to eat. Whatever time works for you, I can't tell you when you eat, which hours are your shift and all that stuff.

[00:05:17] Find out what time works for you and stick to that schedule and get plenty of rest.

[00:05:25] You do that for 90 days. See where you're paying out, locking for 90 days.

[00:05:33] Then you're going to move into the next thing. So what's the next thing you have on your list? Oh great!

[00:05:39] I know I wanted to start my side hustle. Cool! I hear so many people, I'm going to write a book. Cool!

[00:05:47] So next 90 days, every day for 30 minutes you're going to write. If 30 minutes is too long, we're going to start out with 10 minutes.

[00:05:56] It's 10 minutes too long. We're going to start out with 5 minutes. It's 5 minutes too long.

[00:06:01] We're going to start off with 3 minutes. But you're going to do 3 minutes every day. 90 days.

[00:06:10] Dedicated!

[00:06:12] After you finish eating that meal, now you've developed that structure around.

[00:06:18] You finished eating because now you're not eating as much.

[00:06:21] Or maybe you eat more of healthy foods when you finish instead of turning it on TV.

[00:06:27] You're going to write for a few minutes. Just write whatever comes to your mind. 90 days! See what happens at the end of that 90 days.

[00:06:36] Then we move into the next quarter. What are we going to do?

[00:06:43] I'm going to look at the side hustle. I already took my side hustle. I don't even like the word side hustle.

[00:06:48] Let's just make some extra money.

[00:06:51] You know, the side hustle just sounds so temporary.

[00:06:55] Right? And also, when you think about a side hustle,

[00:07:00] side hustle could be just managing the money that you have first.

[00:07:08] Because you're not going to make the mistake of going to the gym or paying for the gym membership or the beginning of the year.

[00:07:14] You're not going to be eating out as much.

[00:07:18] You're not going to be wasting your time with subscribing to all the movie channels.

[00:07:25] You're not going to have peacock, Netflix, Hulu. You're not going to have everything.

[00:07:30] You're going to cut back on those. You don't need stars, showtime, HBO, everything. Cut back on them.

[00:07:37] Pick the one that you're really going to watch. See how much money you save. Do that for 90 days.

[00:07:44] Yeah, I'm looking at you. You can't have. You can't expect for what to change if you're doing the same thing.

[00:07:51] And we're talking little steps. We're not talking big things. 90 days.

[00:08:00] And then in the last quarter,

[00:08:04] you're going to be daring and try something new. Learn a language, a dance, a different cuisine.

[00:08:12] Well, here's something groundbreaking.

[00:08:16] Actually go and talk to people. Oh my God.

[00:08:19] It makes you nervous when you have to go out and meet new people and talk to them.

[00:08:23] But you'll learn a lot just by being around people and you'll learn a lot about yourself. You learn what you like and what you don't like.

[00:08:30] What type of energy you like? You don't like?

[00:08:33] Now, I'm not saying every day you meet a new person. But I would say

[00:08:38] be open to learning something new every day.

[00:08:42] Again, go back to just

[00:08:44] five minutes a day. The last 90 days, five minutes a day, learn something new.

[00:08:50] Download app. Duolingo language. I don't know.

[00:08:55] Cooking show or something like that.

[00:08:58] YouTube channel for dancing, something.

[00:09:01] Yes, and be brave and leave a comment on social media.

[00:09:05] Engage in the comments and talk to people.

[00:09:10] And that's going to be the strategy for 20, 23.

[00:09:14] We're talking lifestyle changes because we don't want to do the fake goals.

[00:09:19] If you have found this to be valuable, please leave a comment.

[00:09:24] If you would like to speak with me directly,

[00:09:29] TommyDanger at gmail.com or it is a contact form on the thinking effect.net.

[00:09:38] But yeah, let me know your progress and let's do this together.

[00:09:43] I'm going to let you know my progress for each quarter.

[00:09:46] What I will do is I will list my four

[00:09:53] things that I will achieve this year and share the progress.

[00:09:59] And we'll have a progress tracker. If you want to be a part of that, it's all good.

[00:10:03] This is the thinking effect.

[00:10:05] What we help you do, you're the only best.
